The Reflection of Christ (The Individual Reflection, Pt 2b: Our Finances, Administration and Acquisition)

Jesus said, "where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." If Jesus Christ is residing and reigning in your heart then it will reflected in how we handle our finances. If Jesus is the Lord of our finances, then we will recognize that we are to be stewards of the resources which God has entrusted to us. Paul stated, "Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful." There are two main aspects to functioning as stewards: The Acquisition of Financial Resources and The Appropriation of Financial Resources. As faithful stewards of God, we should demonstrate a proper priority, honesty, diligence and contentment in the acquisition of financial resources. Are you a "faithful servant?"
The Reflection of Christ (The Individual Reflection, Pt 2a: Our Finances, Principles)

What we say, and how we live, is a reflection of Who, or what, is residing and reigning in our heart! If Jesus Christ is residing and reigning in your heart then you will reflect Him in the activities of your life. Jesus said, "where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Again, if Christ is reigning in our hearts, then it will be reflected in how we handle our finances. Considering, how Christ is reflected in our finances we need to first consider some overarching Biblical principles: The Principle of Lordship, The Principle of Ownership, and The Principle of Discipleship. Finally, we would look at The Principle of Stewardship. As we consider this important subject, we must answer the question, "Who is the Lord of wallet?"
The Reflection of Christ (The Individual Reflection, Pt 1: Our Speech)

When Christ is residing in reigning in our hearts, it will be reflected in our lives and our lives become the reflection of Christ. Jesus stated, "A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speak." If Christ is reigning in our hearts, then our speech should reflect it. Paul shared with the believers of Ephesus what putting on Christ in their lives would look like. He began by describing the effect it should have upon the way they use their mouths. If we are reflecting Christ, then our speech should be reflecting truthfulness, graciousness, righteousness and purposefulness.
The Reign of Christ (Pt 2 His Present Spiritual Reign)

When Jesus was asked by the Phariees when the Kingdom of God would come, He responded "The kingdom of God does not come with observation; ... For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you." Though the Jewish people were looking for the Physical Reign of the Messiah (which will occur during His millennial reign), Jesus told the people that the Kingdom of God was already present. The Scriptures tell us that when an individual accepts Jesus Christ as their savior they become the temple of God. Jesus stated that they (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) would make their home with the believer (John 14:17,23). The evidence of God residing in your heart would be fruit that is consistent with a God controlled heart. But Jesus stated, "why do you call Me 'Lord, Lord,' and not do the things which I say?" Who, or what, is sitting on the throne of your heart? This message considers the location, inhabitants, disposition and focus of this future physical kingdom of the Messiah.
The Reign of Christ (Pt 1 His Future Physical Reign)

In Revelation 20, Jesus reveals through John six times in the first seven verses that there would a one thousand year period in which Satan would be bound and that He would physically reign on the earth. This period of time is referred to as the Millennium, or the Millennial Reign of Christ. Though, the Old Testament Prophets spoke, being moved of the Holy Spirit, much about this period and the Revelation is quite specific and clear regarding the length of this earthly reign of the Messiah, many segments of Christianity refuse to accept a literal understanding. The question must be asked, "Who, or what, should be the final authority for interpretation?" Should it not be God Himself? Additionally, there are many in Christendom who refuse to accept that God has declared that He will once again deal with Israel as His chosen people and nation. This message considers the location, inhabitants, disposition and focus of this future physical kingdom of the Messiah. This message was presented on January 1, 2012 by Bob Corbin

Majestic Meekness

Majesty is defined as stately splendor or royal dignity. Meekness is having power with constraint and gentleness. Both at His birth and death, the majestic meekness of Christ was revealed. God, the ultimate Majesty, emptied Himself and took the form of a servant. At His birth, He was proclaimed by both celestial angels and terrestial shepherds. At His death, the Judge of the earth stood before an earthly judge who sensed the divine presence in front of him. Believers are called to be conformed to the image of Christ and to have the mind of Christ. Hence, we also are to display this majestic meekness in our lives. We are called the heralds of God, the ambassadors of God and the children of God! As well though, we are accounted as servants of God and as sheep for the slaughter. Are we displaying that majestic meekness in our lives, or are we revealing a the mindset of the world? This message was presented on December 25, 2011 by Bob Corbin

The Return of Christ (Pt 4 The Anticipation of His Return)

With all of the propechies that were given regarding the coming of the Messiah, the specific nature of the prophecy of Daniel, and the prophetic appearance of the angel to Zacharias, you would expect that the Jews would have been anxiously anticipating the birth of the Messiah. However, an examination of the Scripture reveals that the majority of the people missed it. So, the question to us is clear, will we be anticipating His 2nd coming? We are told that we should be serving and waiting; we are to be sober and watching! Do you believe that Jesus could come today? Your words and actions bear witness to the truth of your answer!
The Return of Christ (Pt 3 The Timing of His Return)

The season of the timing of the 1st Coming of Christ was given in the prophecy of Daniel. The Messiah would come and be cut off 69 weeks, or 483 years, after the decree to rebuild Jerusalem. When the angel came to Zacharias, the time of the birth of Christ became even more apparent. However, still no man would know the day or hour. The same is true regarding the 2nd coming of Christ. No man knows the day or the hour of His return. However, Paul declares that believers should not be surprised by the timing of the return of Christ as the world shall be. We are not of the night, but of the day. We should be aware of the declarations of the Word of God regarding the timing and climate of the return of Jesus Christ. We should be patiently watching and waiting for the return while we are serving Him faitfully. This message was presented on December 11, 2011 by Bob Corbin

The Return of Christ (Pt 2 The Climate of His Return)

We are told in Scripture that the return of Christ will occur at a time that will be marked by widespread unexpectancy and heresy. People will lulled into an unexpectancy by temporal peace, ignorant optimism and great selfindulgence! Additionally during that time, there will be the presence of false christs and prophets, apostates and those scoffing at the teaching of a Creator God and the return of Christ. In the midst of that time, the return of Christ will come like the travail of a woman's labor. This message was presented on December 4, 2011 by Bob Corbin

The Return of Christ (Pt 1 The Prophecies of His Return)

The timing of this series and specifically to come to this aspect of the series, the Return of Christ, has coincided beautifully with our Advent remembrance. Truly, the remembrance of the 1st Coming of Christ is a reminder that He is coming again! Hence, as we consider the various aspects of the 2nd Coming of Christ, we will apply them to His 1st Advent. There were many prophecies given regarding the coming of the Messiah. Earlier in this series, we considered many of the prophecies and types regarding His coming. The statistical probability that any one person would be able to fulfill the various specific prophecies is phenomenal! However, just as Christ fulfilled each of those specific prophecies, so He will fulfill those regarding His 2nd coming! This message was presented on November 27, 2011 by Bob Corbin

The Life of Christ (Pt 14 His Ascension)

Within the declaration of Christ at His ascension He gave both a positive and negative command. First, He told His disciples NOT to worry about the timing that His physical kingdom would be established. As He had told them earlier, no man knows the day or the hour. Secondly, He told them that they would be witnesses of His resurrection after they had been empowered with the presence of the Holy Spirit. After Christ ascended into heaven, the angels made a declaration to the disciples that provides us with a divine testimony regarding the manner of the return of Christ, He would return the same way that He departed. Hence, since Christ had ascended in the clouds, we are told that He will one day descend in the clouds. How we yearn for that day!
The Life of Christ (Pt 13 His Resurrection)

The Resurrection of Christ is both a matter of fact and a matter of faith. Jesus Christ revealed Himself to well over 500 people after He was resurrected from the dead. In any court of law, that testimony would surely stand. However, when it comes to the resurrection of Christ, many are still skeptical. The Scriptures state as well though that the resurrection of Jesus Christ is a matter of faith. As Jesus stated to Thomas, "... because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." Faith in the resurrection of Christ is integral to salvation. As Paul stated, "if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." The resurrection of Jesus Christ did not just deliver from death and the penalty of sin, it delivered us from the power of sin as well. In Christ, we have new life. Our old man is to be reckoned as dead to sin and alive to Christ. Are you living in the power of His resurrection? This message was presented on November 6, 2011 by Bob Corbin

The Life of Christ (Pt 12 His Crucifixion)

People, unlike plants which are one part (body) and animals which are two part (body and soul), are comprised of a body, a soul and a spirit. As such, we face trials, tribulations, temptations and troublesome situations in each phase. We have physical struggles, emotional struggles and spiritual struggles. When Christ became incarnate, He shared in each of these areas of struggles. We are told in the book of Hebrews that He was tempted in every way such as we are, yet without sin. The greek word for tempted is peirazo which refers to a troublesome situation and is translated as temptation or trial, depending upon the context. As Christ went from His Arrest to His Crucifixion, the war against Him intensified. Satan knew that his only hope at this point was to get Jesus to sin; in order that Christ could no longer be the perfect sin sacrifice and propitiation for our sins. Hence, Jesus began to be assaulted with struggles in each area of our human existence. He faced physical struggles being scourged and crucified. He faced emotional struggles being reviled, mocked and scorned by those who were His creation. He faced spiritual struggles as He, who in the eternal Godhead was holy, became sin and was thereby separated from the Father for one eternal moment! Through each of the struggles Christ conquered! In Christ, we can conquer those troublesome situations that beset us as well! This message was presented on October 30, 2011 by Bob Corbin

The Life of Christ (Pt 11 His Arrest)

Throughout the life of Christ there was a war going on in the spiritual realm. At His birth, we read in both the gospels and Revelation 12, there was battle between the forces of God and the forces of Satan. When Satan lost that battle, He sought to destroy the Messiah in order to preempt the plan of God. When that was foiled, his next target became those who were the followers of the Lamb. At the arrest of Christ, we see this war being intensified and addressed by Christ. Jesus said to those who had come to arrest Him, "this is your hour and the power of darkness." Throughout this passage we see the inferiority of the power of darkness and the superiority of the power of light. The power of darkness is limited in time and limited in authority. As well as the spiritual nature of the war, we see the personal nature of the war through the life of Christ and that of Peter. Jesus not only was attacked by His enemies but He was deserted by His disciples. Peter was targeted by Satan, but he was torpedoed by himself. Are you engage in the war? Are you a soldier of Christ? This message was presented on October 23, 2011 by Bob Corbin

The Life of Christ (Pt 10 His Entry)

The triumphal entry of Christ into Jerusalem marked both the entrance of the prophesied Messiah but also the entrance of He would fulfill the role of the perfect Passover lamb, the lamb who would be slain to take away the sin of the world. Upon His entrance there was great exaltation by the people who threw their cloaks and palm branches under the donkey that He was riding upon. However, in this event, not only do we see the exaltation of Christ, but as well, the lamentation of Christ. For as Christ entered into Jerusalem He wept for a city, and a people, who were missing the true reason for Him coming to them. They were missing the true peace, shalom, that God was offering them.
The Life of Christ (Pt 9b The Promises of His Ministry)

Last week we considered the immediate promises of Christ that He made to His disciples. This week we consider those promises that were imminent. Christ promised that there would be a time in the future for the Reckoning of the World. Christ stated that time would be marked by great physical and spiritual calamity. He also stated that though the world would not believe that it was coming, it was for certain. Secondly, He promised that there would be the Resurrection of the Dead. All people who have evered lived on the face of the earth will be resurrected, some to everlasting life and some to everlasting condemnation. The difference is whether they placed their trust in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ as the payment for their sins. Finally, Jesus promised the Reception of the Saints. There is coming a day when Christ will return in the clouds to receive His saints to Himself. This theologically has been referred to as the Rapture of the Church.
The Life of Christ (Pt 9a The Promises of His Ministry)

While Jesus was on the earth, He made several promises. If we believe that Jesus did not lie and that He always keeps His Word, then those should be important for us to know. Sadly, many have twisted the promises of Christ to say things that He did not say. We can break His promises, and their fulfillments, into two categories: those with immediate fulfillments and those whose fulfillment would be imminent. The promises that would be fulfilled immediately were those regarding the ministry of the Godhead to His followers soon after His death, burial, and resurrection. First, there is the promise of answered prayer. This is not the "name it, claim it" prayers with which many false teachers have deceived their followers. Rather Jesus stated if you ask anything in My name (according to My will), I will do. This is supported by the testimony of John, who in his epistle declared that if ask anything according to the will of God that it would be granted. Again, this is consistent with the Old Testament, where we are told in Psalm 37, where are told that if we delight ourselves in the LORD that He would give us the desires of our heart. The second immediate promise was the giving of the Holy Spirit through Whom we are sealed unto the day of redemption and led into all truth.
The Life of Christ (Pt 8 The Pattern of His Ministry)

You can determine alot about the priorties of an individual by examining their life patterns. What type of tasks are they accustomed to performing, or what type of events are they accustomed to attending? According to the Word of God, we are called by God (and predestined) to be conformed to the image of Christ. Hence, if our desire should be to be Christlike in all our endeavors then it would make sense to consider what the life pattern of Jesus Christ was while He walked on the earth. Interestingly, the Scriptures are very clear regarding this issue. Three times we are told specific items that Jesus was accustomed to doing. It was His custom to attend synagogue. It was His custom to share the Word of God. It was His custom to pray. What does your life pattern look like? Does it match up with that of Jesus?
The Life of Christ (Pt 7b The Passion of His Ministry)

Your passions, that which you become strongly emotional about, will ultimately affect your priorities and decision making. In last week's message we saw that Christ's primary passion was for God, His Father. This passion was consistent with what He declared to be the greatest commandment. Similarly, Christ's secondary passion is consistent with the second greatest commandment, "You should love your neighbor as yourself." Christ's passion for people was revealed in His recognition of, compassion for, and involvement in their needs. Jesus willingly set aside His own needs and desires in order to meet those with whom He came into contact. Having a passion for others is also a command for His followers. The presence, or absence, of that passion in our lives is a commentary regarding our relationship with the Father. Finally, having a passion for others will be a criterion as we stand before the judgment seat of Christ. What are your two greatest passions? Are they consistent with one who claims to be a follower of Jesus? This message was presented on September 11, 2011 by Bob Corbin

The Life of Christ (Pt 7a The Passion of His Ministry)

Your passions, that which you become strongly emotional about, will ultimately affect your priorities and decision making. What passion characterized the ministry of Christ? Earlier in our series, we saw that from a youth Christ knew, and was focused on, His purpose in life and sought to finish the work which the Father had given Him to perform. Christ had a passion for God, His Father. This passion is consistent with that which He declared to be the greatest command, "You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind." We, too, are to have this primary passion for God. This passion for God will be revealed in our passion for His Word and His Work, will be a result of knowing His passion for us, and is the basis of the blessings and curses which we individually (and as a nation) experience.
The Life of Christ (Pt 6 The Parables of His Ministry)

The word "parable" is a transliteration of the Greek word "parabolae" which is made up of two separate words: para (alongside, beside) and ballo (to throw, to place). Hence, it means "to throw alongside" as a comparison. A parable is a word picture, used to compare the unknown with the known, in which the listener himself has to find the similarity. Jesus used parables frequently in His teaching of the Kingdom. He stated that His purpose was both to conceal and to reveal. Those who had eyes to see and ears to hear would understand. Do the teachings of Jesus make sense to you? Do you desire to understand the Word of God? How much time do you spend in His Word?
The Life of Christ (Pt 5 The Power of His Ministry)

The validity of Jesus as Messiah and the proclamation of His ministry, that the people should repent (change the way they think) because the Kingdom of God was at hand, was provided through the display of His power and authority over nature, demons, disease, handicaps, death and sin.
The Life of Christ (Pt 4 The Proclamation of His Ministry)

"REPENT! For the Kingdom of God is at hand!" The proclamation of Christ was to "repent." The word "metanoio/metanoia" literally means "change the thinking," or "change the way you think." Those who are part of the Kingdom of God should not be thinking like those who are part of the kingdom of this world. We should seek to NOT be conformed to this world, but rather TO BE transformed in the renewing of our minds (desiring that our minds be made new). We are told that if any man be in Christ, he is a new creation. In this message Bob Corbin gives an overview of a biblical understanding of "the Kingdom" and what relationship that had to the command of Christ to repent.
The Life of Christ (Pt 3 The Preparation for His Ministry)

Before Christ entered into His official ministry phase of life, He revealed His submission and obedience to the Father by being immersed by John. Afterwards, being led of the Spirit, He went into the desert to finish His preparation by being tempted by Satan. The three temptations which were recorded correspond with the three categories of sin listed by John in his first epistle ... the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye, and the pride of life. Jesus dealt with these temptations victoriously as a result of spending time with the Father in prayer and fasting, and spending time reading and memorizing the Word of God. How effective is your preparation for ministry? This message was presented on July 24, 2011 by Bob Corbin

The Life of Christ (Pt 2 His Youth)

"Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father's business?" Those were the words which Jesus spoke to His mother and step-father when they searched for Him at the age of twelve. They found Him in the temple discussing the Word of God with the scribes and elders. As a twelve year old, Jesus stated that His purpose in life was to be focused on the work which the Father desired Him to perform. What is your purpose in life? We are told in Ephesians 2 that we were saved by grace through faith unto good works which God had before ordained that we should walk in.
The Shadow of Christ (Pt 20 Seeing Christ as the Suffering Servant)

"Man of sorrows what a name for the Son of God who came, ruined sinners to reclaim. Hallelujah! What a Savior!" The Messiah who was to come would suffer and become my sin that I might take on His righteousness! This suffering was part of the plan of God from eternity past, before He laid the foundation of the world. Our God is Sovereign over ALL the affairs of men. Though we, as humanity, cause the overwhelming majority of our own suffering, God has promised that "all things work together for good to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose." That purpose is to be conformed to the image of His blessed Son, Jesus Christ, who suffered for us and left us an example in which we should be willing to walk. In fact, Paul declares His desire to know Christ not only included the power of His resurrection but also the fellowship of His suffering. Each of the details of Isaiah 53 were fulfilled in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This message was presented on June 19, 2011 by Bob Corbin

"The people who have walked in darkness, have seen a great light; those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined." Light disperses darkness. Light breaks the yoke of bondage. That Light was the Messiah who was to come. When He was born, we are told His name would be "Wonderful Counselor," "Mighty God," "Everlasting Father," and "Prince of Peace." Each of those names reflect the deity of the Messiah; for each of those names refer distinctly to YHWH who alone is God. This message was presented on June 12, 2011 by Bob Corbin

The Shadow of Christ (Pt 19 Seeing Christ as the Good Shepherd)

"The LORD (YHWH) is my shepherd" is probably the most profound statement in the Scripture. Consider the awesome it is to consider that the Almighty Creator of the Universe is the loving provider and protector of each individual ... He is my Shepherd! He cares about my physical, emotional and spiritual needs. And because of His Eternal Presence with me, I can have great confidence. Prophetically, this passage is extremely important as Jesus is referred to as "the good Shepherd" and "the Shepherd and Overseer of our souls." YHWH is the good Shepherd. Jesus is the good Shepherd. Jesus is YHWH! This message was presented on June 5, 2011 by Bob Corbin

The Shadow of Christ (Pt 18 Seeing Christ as the Davidic King)

In II Samuel 7, YHWH establishes an everlasting covenant with David. On the practical side of this passage we note that this covenant was initiated by God with His chosen servant. Earlier when choosing David YHWH had declared to Samuel, "the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart." God is the discerner of the heart of man. That could be comforting or convicting. The prophetical consideration of this covenant with David is extremely important. Anyone claiming that they are the Messiah must be able to prove their lineage. They must be able to prove that they are a descendant of David. When the temple was destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD all of the genealogical records were destroyed! In Matthew 1 and Luke 3, the genealogical record of Jesus is established. Both Mary and Joseph are seen to be of the line of David. Jesus IS the Son of David and we await for His return to rule on the Davidic throne during the Millenium.
The Shadow of Christ (Pt 17 Seeing Christ as the Prophet)

Before Israel entered into the Promised Land, Moses took one final opportunity to inculcate into the nation what God had done for them and what He expected from them. Part of that challenge included a prophecy that God would one day send them another Prophet. In conjunction with that prophecy he gave two warnings: 1) Do not be conformed to the customs of the nations, and 2) Do not be deceived by false prophets. Sadly, Israel did not heed the warnings. Nor did they recognize The Prophet when He came unto His own! Those same warnings are applicable to the church. This message was presented on May 22, 2011 by Bob Corbin

The Shadow of Christ (Pt 16 Seeing Christ as the Cure)

Throughout the Old Testament we find types which are shadows of the Messiah who was to come and which are testified to in the New Testament. During Israel's journey through the wilderness we see many of these types portrayed. One significant type is that of the brazen serpent lifted up in the wilderness, referred to by Jesus Himself in John 3. The children of Israel were guilty of insurrection against God, complaining about God's provision and direction. God sent fiery serpents among them. When the people repented God gave a cure: a bronze serpent attached to a pole. However, the people, when bitten, had to approach the pole by faith believing that they would be cured. In the same light, those who have been bitten by the serpent of sin, that would be everyone, must by faith look to Christ believing that they will be spiritually healed.
The Shadow of Christ (Pt 14 Seeing Christ as the Sin Sacrifice)

In Levitical law there was a specific manner in which the sin sacrifice was to be offered. The presenter was to bring a young bull without blemish, lay his hands on the head of the bull confessing his sin, and then kill the bull. The priest was then to sprinkle the blood of the bull seven times on the altar, anoint the horns of the altar with the blood, and then pour the remainder of the blood at the base of the altar. This "Shadow" was fulfilled in the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ on the altar of the cross! Those who come to Christ must as well confess their sins and accept the atonement that His eternally efficacious sacrifice provides.
The Shadow of Christ (Pt 9 Seeing Christ As Our Passover)

The Feast of Passover is an annual remembrance for the Jewish people of how YHWH delivered them from the dominion and power of Egypt. Jesus, the night in which He was betrayed, revealed the fulfillment of the Passover celebration. He would be our Passover. The commemoration which we refer to as communion, or the Lord's Supper, actually is an extenuation of the Passover celebration. Jesus, as the firstborn Son, died in our stead; He was the ultimate Passover Lamb. Christ fully fulfilled the Passover type. He was chosen on the 10th day of Nisan, examined for four days, and then slaughtered (crucified) at twilight on the 14th day of Nisan. This was in order that we might be emancipated from our Egypt, sin! This message was presented on Sunday, February 27, 2011 by Bob Corbin

The Shadow of Christ (Pt 6 Seeing Christ As The Lamb of God)

Throughout the recording of the history of the world found in the Old Testament, God had provided glimpses into the nature of the Messiah Redeemer who was to come. Hence, when Christ was born there should have been no surprise as to Who Jesus was and what His sacrificial role would be. In John 20:29 we read Jesus stating to Thomas, "because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." We, who live 2,000 years since the death, burial and resurrection of Christ accept, by faith, the validity and veracity of the gospel account recorded throughout the Scriptures. The greatest illustration of the love of God expressed in the sacrificial offering of His Son is the account of the testing of the faith of Abraham. Through Abraham's willingness to heed God's call to offer his son, his only son, whom he loved to Him as a sacrifice we see God's tremendous love for us.
The Shadow of Christ (Pt 5 Seeing Christ As The Melchizedekian Priest)

In Genesis 14, there is a brief account of an encounter between Abraham and Melchizedek. Yet that encounter has much packed into it practically and prophetically. In the encounter between the Patriarch and the Priest we see three indicators of our relationship with the LORD God Most High: our reputation, our giving and our alliances. Prophetically, we are told by Psalmist regarding the Messiah: "The LORD has sworn and will not relent, 'You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.' " (Psalm 110:4) In book of Hebrews we find that the Melchizedekian Priesthood of Jesus Christ is superior to and supplanted the Levitical Aaronic Priesthood.
The Shadow of Christ (Pt 4 Seeing Christ As The Seed of Abraham)

The manifestation of Christ at His incarnation was the revealing of a mystery that God had given indicators regarding throughout recorded history in the Scriptures. One of those indicators was the declaration of God to Abraham that He would make him the father of many nations and that in him, and his seed, all of the nations of the world would be blessed. We are told in Galatians 3 that Christ is the Seed of Abraham. Then, those who follow the example of Abraham and trust God by faith are considered the seed of Abraham as well. As Abraham, those who by faith trust Christ as their Savior are to be a blessing to those about them. God called Abraham to leave his home, family and religious heritage to follow Him and serve Him. That same challenge is given to each person who would be the disciples of Jesus Christ. Are you willing to leave everything to follow Jesus? This message was presented on Sunday, January 23, 2011 by Bob Corbin

The Shadow of Christ (Pt 3 Seeing Christ As The Redeemer)

After His resurrection, Jesus appeared to two of His disciples as the were walking on the road to Emmaus. As they walked together, Jesus "expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself." Indicators of God's plan of redemption had been given throughout the Scriptures. One of the earliest recorded references to what man understood about God's plan is found in the book of Job. Job declared, "For I know that my Redeemer lives, and He shall stand at last on the earth; and after my skin is destroyed, this I know, that in my flesh I shall see God, Whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!" Job knew that man needed to be redeemed and that redemption would be provided by God incarnate. He also knew that after his body was buried and decayed, he would be resurrected and given a new body! Such great faith aided Job to not only endure such great affliction, but to worship God in the midst of it. This message was presented on Sunday, January 16, 2011 by Bob Corbin

The Shadow of Christ (Pt 2 Seeing Christ As The Seed of Woman)

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. Indicators of the coming of Christ and His diety are throughout the Word of God. When God placed man in the garden to tend it, He gave man one special command, "Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die." Adam and Eve, though, chose to believe and heed the voice of Satan. Man died socially, physically and spiritually. However, in the midst of issuing the consequences for disobedience, God revealed that Messiah would come both as a suffering Messiah and a conquering Messiah. How alert are you to the wiles of the devil? Have you, by faith, accepted the gift of life that Christ purchased for you?
The Shadow of Christ (Pt 1 Seeing Christ As The Creator)

Indicators of the coming of Christ and His diety are throughout the Word of God. His first coming at the incarnation should not have come as a surprise. Lord willing, during the next 22 messages we will be considering the portents and indicators of Christ's coming and His diety. The best place to begin is at the beginning. When God created, He created with order and purpose, in six 24 hour days. Then He rested on the seventh day and established a pattern for us to follow. Scripture reveals that Jesus Christ is the LORD of the Sabbath and LORD of creation; He is the everlasting God who came to earth to pay the penalty for each of our sins.
Focusing on the Christ (Introduction: In The Fulness of Time)

The greatest gift that God gave to man was the incarnation. God the Son took on human flesh to redeem us and adopt us! However, this gift did not come without a hint. For 4,000 years God had been providing types, portents and direct prophecies regarding the coming of Christ. In the same manner, there are many indicators referring to the second coming of Christ. The first coming of Christ was came in the fulness of time both chronologically and typologically. In the same manner regarding His second coming Jesus stated, "Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only."
The Gifts of God (Pt. 4 Peace)

The great paradox of the Christmas season is the angelic declaration that the Messiah was coming to bring peace (Luke 2:14). However, the very same Messiah declared, "Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword." (Matthew 10:34) The key to understanding the apparently contradiction is to consider the context of each declaration. True peace is that which has been given to us as one of God's good and perfect gifts. While the world is looking for a messiah that will bring "world peace," true peace only comes when we experience peace with God. Once we experience this peace with God, the peace of God is extended into our lives. True perfect peace is that inner tranquility you may have regardless of your external circumstances.
The Gifts of God (Pt. 3 The Holy Spirit)

God is the giver of every good and perfect gift (James 1:17). One of those great, perfect gifts is the gift of the Holy Spirit. Jesus stated that it was to the advantage of the disciples that He depart; for when He departed, He would send the Holy Spirit to dwell in them forever. (John 16:7; 14:16-17) The Holy Spirit seals us, confirms us, sanctifies us, enables us, and intercedes for us. What an awesome gift!
The Gifts of God (Pt. 2 Eternal Life)

James 1:17 states, "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning." God has, by His grace, bestowed on us many good and perfect gifts. Last week, we consider the gift of grace itself and the major outpouring of that grace in salvation. Salvation is not just being delivered from power of sin here on this earth; though, that is also a huge gift of God's grace. Rather, the gift of God in salvation is eternal life. Romans 6:23 states, "The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." God has promised eternal life to all who, by faith, believe in His plan of redemption through Christ Jesus. Do you know for certain that if you "expired" today that you would continue living in the presence of God? I John 5:13 states that you may know that you have eternal life!
The Gifts of God (Pt. 1 Grace)

As we enter into this Advent season of reflection, considering the incarnation of our great God and Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, we need to take great care to not be distracted by the materialism of the world. We seek the "perfect gift." However, God is the giver of every good and perfect. He has already bestowed His perfect gifts upon us. The core of all of God's gifts is His grace. Grace is when we receive (in a beneficial sense) what we do not deserve. God ministers grace to all of His creation by providing food, water and shelter. To mankind, God has gone past this pouring out of common grace of provision to a special, saving grace. "For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men." God, in His grace, has paid the price for the sins of the whole world. Have you appropriated God's grace in your life? Are you reflecting His grace through your life to others?
Come Ye Thankful People (Pt. 4 The Fruit of Thanksgiving)

Thankful people will exude thankfulness in their lives. Primarily your thankfulness to God will be exhibit in your speech and in your generosity. The believers of Macedonia gave liberally, out of their poverty, because they had first given themselves to the Lord. This occurred as a result of their thankfulness to God for what He had done for them. How thankful are you for His gift of salvation? How thankful are you for His provision and protection? As a nation, we have a lot for which to be thankful. But what part will recounting God's wondrous works play in your Thanksgiving festivities this week? "Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy."
Come Ye Thankful People (Pt. 3 The Frequency of Thanksgiving)

The Thanksgiving holiday is a special reminder to us as believers how thankful we ought to be to God for Who He is and what He has done. Our thanks to God though is many times contingent upon our circumstances. However, Scripture states "in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." We should be thankful for all things at all times. "Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name."
Come Ye Thankful People (Pt. 1 The Foundation of Thanksgiving)

As we approach the upcoming holiday season, it ought to be a reminder to us as believers to consider how thankful we are. Giving thanks to God is commanded Biblically and should be natural for those who are redeemed. Psalm 107 states, "Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy." The foundation of our thanksgiving is our recognition of God as our Creator and as our Redeemer. He is the Giver of Physical and Spiritual life. How thankful are you? What place will thanking God have in your Thanksgiving celebration this year?
Catching the Ear of God

In I John 5 we read, "Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him." In James 5 we read, "The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much." As believers we can be assured of being effective in our prayer life. The key is to be delighting in God and His will. When we delight ourselves in the LORD, He will give us the desires of our heart. That is because our desires will be based on His will. What does your prayer life look like?
Knowing God - The Desires of God (Part 4)

In this final message of the series, we are challenged to consider once again the application of knowing God. It is God's will for His children to be sanctified, to be in a process of becoming more conformed to His holiness ... "as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct." This transformation of the way we think and live will cause us to be different from the world ... as different as righteousness is from lawlessness, as light is from darkness, and as Christ is from Belial! Believers are the temple of the Holy Spirit. We need to live as those who are called "Holy" for the glory of God and the drawing of unbelievers to His holiness.
Knowing God - The Desires of God (Part 3)

The will of God is the expression of His desires that He has revealed throughout His Word. The chief desire of God is the exaltation of His person. The primary motive of worship is the recognition that He is the Creator and that He has created all things according to His desire (Revelation 4). As part of that creation, God made man in His own image and likeness. We are told in the Scripture that God desires all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of truth. It is not God's will, or desire, that any should perish. What is our desire? This message was presented on Sunday, October 17, 2010 by Bob Corbin

Jesus said, "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven." The chief desire of God is the exaltation of His person. "I am the LORD, that is My name; and My glory I will not give to another ..."
Knowing God - The Desires of God (Part 1)

The Will of God has been broken down in theology into various categories including His decreed will and permissive will. However, our "wills" are an expression of the strength and priority of our desires. God's Will is the expression of His desires which are consistent and in conformity to His being, composition, plan and attributes. Psalm 115 states, "our God does whatever He pleases." As believers and disciples of Christ it should be our desire (will) to walk in His steps which He expressed "My food is to the will (desire) of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work."
The Hearer and the Doer

Most, if not all, people would say that they would like to be blessed in their lives. However, not everyone realizes that God has not left us in the dark as to how we can be blessed. One of those primary means of blessing is to be doers of the Word and not hearers only. James, by inspiration of God, clearly denotes two different categories of people who hear God's Word. This message considers the ascribing of YHWH's name to His Children. When we accept God's plan of salvation through Christ, we receive the privilege of adoption.
Knowing God - The Names of God (Pt 1)

The terms by which God has chosen to reveal Himself provide additional revelation of His character, His works, and His relationship to us. The Hebrew term for God is El. However, from the beginning (Genesis 1:1) God chose to use the plural of that term "Elohim" in reference to Himself. Beginning at Genesis 2:4, God personalized His relationship with mankind by referring to Himself as YHWH Elohim. The Name YHWH means "self existent one". This message covers that interpretation, intensifiers and importance of Hebrew Title and Name for God including El, Eloah, El Shaddai, El Elyon, YHWH, YHWH Tsabaoth and YWHW Elohim.
Knowing God - The Fervency of God (Pt 1)

Numerous times in Scripture God declares, "I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God." The word translated jealousy is the Hebrew word qana. In the New Testament it is the Greek word zaelo. Both refer to having a hot fervency toward something, or someone. The Fervency of God is displayed in His Zeal for His Person, His Plan and His People. However, it is also displayed in His jealousy for the affection of His children. Overwhelmingly, God has declared that He will not share His bride with another. Do we have that same zeal for Him and jealousy in our affection for Him?
Knowing God - The Goodness of God (Pt 2)

God is holy and righteous, but we are not. Yet God is loving and faithful and desires for all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth ... and that truth is that God, in His goodness, made a way for us to be reconciled to Him through the payment of the penalty of our sins. That way was for God Himself to be incarnate, taking on the form of a servant in the likeness of man, dieing on the cross AND THEN raising from the dead ... conquering death!
Knowing God - The Goodness of God (Pt 1)

The goodness of God is expressed throughout Scripture in a two-fold manner - through His mercy and His grace. It is expressed, also, many times in relation to God's righteousness and justice. In Romans 2 we are asked the question, "Do you despise the riches of His goodness ... not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?" The goal of the goodness of God (His mercy and grace) is to lead us to repentance - in the process of redemption and restoration. However, we presume upon His goodness!
Knowing God - The Righteousness of God (Pt 1)

Righteousness is the adherance to moral, or virtuous, principles. But who is the determiner of the moral principle? Our culture proclaims falsely that what may be right (just, righteous) to one group/individual is not necessarily right for another group/individual. There is, however, a standard of absolute morality - and that standard has been determined by God and proclaimed in His Law. Hence, True Righteousness is that which is right according to God's standards. True justice is that justice which is enacted according to the righteous principles of God's law. Righteousness and justice are the foundation of God's throne. God's righteousness is integral to His judgment and our salvation.
Knowing God - Knowing God as Father

As incredible and mind-boggling as it is to be able to have a personal relationship with the God Who created the universe, how much more so to realize that God has paid the adoption price that we can become the children of God and can declare to Him, "Abba, Father."
Knowing God - The Faithfulness of God (Pt 2)

The consideration of the faithfulness of God ought to provoke us to worship Him - in praise and increased faith - and to reflect Him. How we respond to His callings and situations of life reveal alot about what we believe regarding the faithfulness of God (His trustworthiness, reliability and dependableness).
Knowing God - The Faithfulness of God (Pt 1)

To be faithful is to be dependable, reliable and trustworthy. God is faithful in His Words - IN what He says and TO what He says. Our salvation is critically based upon the faithfulness of God - He gave His Word and He will perform it until it's completion!
Sufferings and the Believer - 1 Peter 4:12-19

Sufferings in the life of the believer may come as a result of the judgment of God due to sin. However, it may come as a result of the believer living the righteousness of God in an evil world. As believers, we need to know how to correctly analyze why sufferings are in our lives and to respond to them accordingly.
Knowing God - The Love of God (Pt 1)

The Old Testament word for love (ahav) referred to a passionate affection that one would choose to have for someone else. The New Testament equivalent (agape) refers to a committed, self-giving love. It is this type of love that God demonstrated for us. He chose to place His affection on us and to give selflessly to meet our need. This message was presented on Sunday, May 9, 2010 by Bob Corbin.
